About "Marc" Marcantonio

      Marc Marcantonio was born in Newark, Delaware in 1953, and fished that area until entering military service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in 1976.  As a graduate of the University of Delaware in 1975, Marc obtained Bachelor of Science Degrees in Ecology, and Entomology, (with a minor in Fisheries Biology).  He won his first fishing derby at age 5, and caught the previous Delaware State record largemouth bass (8.5 lbs) at age 16.  At the Delaware Federation Championships, Marc qualified for the first Delaware BASS Federation State Team, and fished the B.A.S.S. National Championships in 1975 at age 22.  He possesses many large fish awards, including Largemouth Bass, White Shad, Sockeye Salmon, Coho, Striped Bass and Sea Trout.  Marc is possibly the record holder of the single largest limit (5 fish) of Spotted Bass ever caught, weighing 28 lbs 14 oz, from Lake Perris, CA in 1982.  He also garnered three IGFA records (including a line-class World Record) during 2004 for walleye and for smallmouth bass.

             Marc retired from the Army as a Lt. Colonel out of Fort Lewis, WA in 1998.  He now lives in Steilacoom, WA with his wife, Roe (a Physical Therapist).  Their daughter Andrea is attending University of California at Irvine, majoring in Biology (pre-med).  Marc and Roe also have a son (Robb), daughter-in-law (Mel), and granddaughter (Gianna).  After retirement from the Army, Marc worked as a Fisheries Biologist, and now manages a water utility in addition to his fishing enterprises.

            Marc is the owner and President of "West Coast Tackle & Co." P.O. Box 88807, Steilacoom, WA  98388 (253-589-8681), which is a four-part business consisting of: 1) Professional bass fishing including tournaments, seminars, and speaking engagements, 2) Outdoor writer and photographer, 3) Manufacturer of QuickDrops(Tm) dropshot sinkers,  and 4) a fishing tackle Representative business.

            A long-time member and President of many fishing clubs, Marc is currently a member of Puget Sound Bass Anglers, Puget Sound Anglers, Northwest Bass, American Bass Association, and a Lifetime B.A.S.S. member.  He has won "Angler of the Year" awards in Delaware, Maryland, California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.

            Marc is a "Certified Military Fishing Instructor" and a "Washington State Certified Angler’s Education Instructor".  In addition to speaking at Outdoor Shows, he teaches fishing classes at military installations, on the Internet, at club meetings, and at community events.  He is regularly featured in many publications, including advertisements and cover photos, and is often a guest on radio shows.

            In 1999 Marc became a Bass Columnist for ESPN Outdoors and Fishing & Hunting News.  Marc also writes for Bass West Magazine, Inside Line Magazine, several Internet sites including WesternBass.com, and freelances.  Marc is also a published author in military medical publications and fisheries biology publications.  He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA), the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA), and Northwest Outdoor Writers Association (NOWA).

            Marc is a "Past President" of the Tacoma Chapter of the Northwest Steelhead & Salmon Council of Trout Unlimited (a 275+ member organization dedicated to improving the cold-water fisheries of the Northwest).  He led the Chapter in 1996, 1997, and 1998 to provide over 500 “volunteer days of work”, with almost 5000 volunteer hours expended, teaching aquatic education, and raising more than 70,000 salmon.  The Chapter taught fishing and angler’s education to more than 2000 children in 1996, 1997, and 1998, earning the Washington State Angler Education award from TU two years in a row.  Marc continues to teach 500+ children each year, through didactic and hands-on training.  Marc was also awarded “Outstanding Sportsperson of the Year” for 2004 by the Washington Council of Trout Unlimited.

            In addition to the previously mentioned tournament experience, Marc and partner Mike Matkowski are the 2006 Champions of the largest tournament circuit in the Northwest (Northwest Bass).  They are the 2005 Anglers of the Year for the ABA Northwest Region (WA, ID, and OR).  Marc and Mike won Anglers of the Year honors for the Northwest Bass circuit in 2004.  Marc is also the 2004 Angler of the Year for the American Bass Association Washington West circuit with partner Ron Hobbs Jr., and the 2004 Angler of the Year for the Northwest Region (covering Washington, Oregon, and Idaho) with partner Ron Hobbs Jr. Marc has won numerous tournaments all over the United States, and has also fished in Italy, Germany, Austria, Mexico, Korea, and Canada (for many species).
